This week we were lucky enough to witness the crossing of Elk on the Snake River just below Jackson Dam. The Elk here are hunted about 1 mile away from the road at Oxbow bend. As we approach hunting season, the Elk spend their days in the forests, and the nights feeding in the meadows on the other side of the river. At sunrise these Elk migrate across the river allowing us a memorable experience. Yesterday a heard of 30 crossed upstream and in the fog. This day I was lucky enough to have them cross farther down stream with the soft yellow morning light behind them, illuminated the water, fog and outlining these magnificent creatures.
